In 1981, Vedat Şar graduated with a medical degree from Istanbul University, and subsequently completed his residency at Hacettepe University Medical Faculty Hospital from 1981 to 1986. Between 1986 and 1989, he worked at Forensic and Military Hospitals in Istanbul before becoming an associate professor at Istanbul University’s Department of Psychiatry in 1990. He was later appointed as a full professor in 1996 and established both the Clinical Psychotherapy Unit and the Dissociative Disorders Program within the same department. Currently, he holds the position of Chair of the Psychiatry Department at Koç University Medical School, and is also a consultant psychiatrist at VKV American Hospital. In addition to these roles, he also practices independently in Istanbul.
